Metronidazole was approved by the FDA in 1963.

Metronidazole is approved for the treatment of amebic dysentery, amebic liver abscess, trichomoniasis anaerobic infection, bacterial vaginosis, and rosacea.

Off-lable, it is also indicated for antibiotic induced pseudo membranous enterocolitis and giardiasis.
